We are retiring and the farm is for sale.  We hope to find buyers who share our passion for beef and will continue producing ground beef  for the local coop. 

Fenced Pasture, Woods and Home on the North Shore if Lake Superior

120 acres surrounded by federal and state land. The human residence is in the quanset hut and the Morton building is 30 x 60. Half is a shop/garage with dirt floor. The other half is infloor heat that is being used as an office for a business.  There is a 20 x60 hay barn with a livestock shelter on the west side, a loafing shed and chicken coop. Heat in the Qhut is wood with propane backup. The office is propane.

The Highland Cattle are available with the farm

We hope the cattle can stay here and be purchased with the property. There are presently 15 head.  At this time there are six proven cows, one steer, four young bulls and four hefers.  We had free ranging chickens with good success in the past.  The Scottish Highland breed is well suited to this northern environment. Their thick coats protect them for the cold in winter. Thier horns are formidable and the preditors stay away.

Fencing makes a ranch. We have installed high tensile 12 gauge electrified fencing.  Four strand with two hot wires. Livestock is very respectful of this fence. The corners are strong and made from retired power poles. 80 of the 120 acres is wired. The lower 40 has posts only.  The pastures can be grazed or be used for hay fields. Moisture is rarely a problem in this part of the country. The fields stay green into the autumn.  There are grasses, clovers and alfalfa.

This location offers limitless oportunities for hunting, fishing and many forms of recreation. Hiking, biking, ATVing, canoeing, camping and so forth.  The city of Grand Marais has personality and charater.  The arts flurish.  The Northhouse Folk School has interesting classes and the restaurants are always full in the summer and quiet in the off season.  The pond shown here is on the property.

Price and Options

The farm has three 40 acre sections.  We prefer to sell the whole property as one farm or ranch.  It is possible to buy the main 40 with buildings and main driveway by itself.  That is priced at $386,000. The other two 40s provide pasture, hay and a potentional building site with a lake view.  $265,000 for those two pieces.  The present herd is worth $10,000. There is a skidsteer with seven attachments and a hay hauling trailer available as well. Fencing, tools and more come with the farm.
